Aricia eumedon

Hostplant: In Norway the hostplant is Geranium sylvaticum. Less commonly G. sanguineum. I used G.sylvaticum.

Lifecycle and behaviour: The female lays her eggs on the flower. I did not observe egglaying on leaves. The eggs used 3-4 days to hatch. The newly hatched larva burrowed inside the developing seedpod and ate the insides. The larva changes color drastically when molting from L1 to L2, from a light yellow to a dark brown/black color. The larva hibernated as L2. During the hibernation all my lave unfortunately dried out and died. New breeding efforts will be done in the future.

The adult butterfly flies in one generation, usually in june but also into july at higher elevations.
