Aricia artaxerxes

Hostplant: Geranium sylvaticum and G.sanguineum. I used G.sylvaticum.

Lifecycle and behavior: The female usually laid eggs on the flowers and leaves, but sometimes also on the stem. The eggs used 4-6 days to hatch. The larva fed both on the developing seedpods and the leaves. The larva usually hibernates, but a few of the larva went all the way to imago in the same summer. The rest of the larva hibernated as normal as L3. Larval stages lasted about 4 weeks and they molted 3 times. Pupal stages lasted 9-12 days. The adults are on the wing usually in June, in the north later in July.
