Argynnis aglaja
Hostplant: Viola spp. I used V.tricolor, V.riviniana and V.cornuta.
Lifecycle and behavior: Female laid eggs pretty easily in captivity, both on the hostplant and on the container itself. The eggs used 8-9 days to hatch. The larva hibernates as newly hatched L1, only eating its own eggshell before settling down. After hibernation in early spring they started eating and molted 4 times. They larval stage lasted about 4 weeks. Pupation stage lasted 8-9 days. The adult butterfly has its main flight period in late June through July, but you can find individuals into August.
