Lycaena phlaeas

Hostplant: Rumex spp. In my breeding efforts i used both R.acetosa and R.longifolius.

Lifecycle and behaviour: In captivity the female laid eggs mostly on the stem but sometimes also on the underside of the leaves. The eggs used 5-7 days to hatch. Larval stages lasted about 2,5-3 weeks and they molted 3 times. Pupal stages lasted about 2 weeks. These timings are based on indoor captive breeding and might differ from natural outdoor conditions. The adults are on the wing usually from late May until August. It flies in two generations in the south. Up north and in the mountains they usually only have one generation.

Note: The northern distribution of the species is by some considered a separate subspecies, ssp. polaris.
